The Tempelhofer Park

The Tempelhofer Park is a recreation area in Berlins districts Neukoelln and Tempelhof.
It is located on the Tempelhofer Feld of the Teltow Heights, covering 355 hectare of the terrain of former Airport Tempelhof, is therefore Berlin´s largest city park and is part of the „ Tempelhofer Freiheit“Project, which additionally incorporates the buildings, as well as the apron of the former airport.

The Gruen Berlin GmbH is responsible for the operation of the park.

Opening
The park was opened to the public on the 8th of May 2010. On the first weekend it was frequented by 235,000 visitors. Because of a demonstration, that was directed against the park´s regular closing after dusk and the selling of real estate on the terrain, the entrances at Oderstrasse and Columbiadamm were temporarily closed by security service.

Pioneer projects
The Tempelhof Project GmbH called for the population of the Tempelhofer Field by different initiatives. In the early stage of the process 138 projects had applied, of which in September 2010 , 19 were chosen as „space pioneers“. At Three sites/ location areas of altogether 8 hectare are available to the Space pioneers ( : ( Pioneer field Oderstrasse: Neighborhoods Neukoelln, Pioneer field Columbiadamm; Combined use for Sports and Culture , Pioneer field Tempelhofer Damm: „ Wissen schaft Kultur“ / Science and Culture. In September 2015 there were 17 remaining pioneer projects, e.g. the All-mende Kontor ( Pioneer field Oderstrasse community garden), nuture mini golf ( Pioneer field Columbiadamm, 18 artists design interactive artworks as mini golf course) and the district gardens Schillerkiez
( Pioneer field Oderstrasse) These initiatives offer a large spectrum for the integration of the population through art, sport and nature experience.
